HC Allows Temporary Bail To Man Convicted For Killing Shiv Sena Leader To Appear In MH CET For Studying LLB

The court had directed his release from May 23 to May 31 on cash bail of Rs15,000. The judges have clarified that in case Ansari fails to surrender to the prison on May 31, his bail plea shall not be heard.

The applicant was represented by advocate Irfan Unwala, who was instructed by W3Legal LLP.

The State was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor PP Shinde.

A bench of Justices NR Borkar and Somasekhar Sundaresan noted that the convict had been in jail for nine years and had not misused bail liberty in the past.

In Sohail Salim Ansair v State of Maharashtra, the Bombay High Court recently granted temporary bail to a murder convict, serving a life sentence in jail, to enable him to appear for the LL.B entrance examination scheduled to be held on May 30.

"It appears that the Applicant is in jail for about nine years. It further appears that during trial he was on bail for some period and he did not misuse the liberty granted to him," the order dated May 24 stated.

In December 2021, Dindoshi Sessions Court sentenced the applicant to imprisonment for life for the offence of murder punishable under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

He sought temporary bail for one week to appear for the entrance examination and produced the admit card to support his prayer.

The Court noted the past conduct of the applicant and released him on a cash bail of ₹15,000.
